Quenching Oils

Fast, medium, and slow cooling oils designed for controlled heat extraction, reduced distortion, and long service life.

Select Products

  • NuQuench A 100 is a premium fast quench oil designed to impart high hardness values to low carbon-low alloy steels, while giving long life and clean parts. The low viscosity of this product, combined with good bath agitation yields uniform part hardness in tightly packed baskets. The low viscosity also results in minimal drag out. New generation additives are used to formulate NuQuench A100, which have been found to yield long life, clean parts, and desirable cooling rates. Quenched parts can be cleaned in solvent or alkaline cleaners.
  • NuQuench 2211 is a premium quench oil designed to impart maximum hardness values to a variety of steels. The low viscosity of this oil allows for uniform hardening of irregular shapes, hardening of parts packed in baskets and yields minimum drag-out. The additives used to formulate NuQuench 2211 have been found to yield long life, clean parts and desirable cooling rates.
  • NuQuench 3440 is a fast quench oil designed to impart maximum hardness values to low carbon and low alloy steels. The low viscosity of this oil allows uniform hardening of irregular shapes, uniform hardening of parts packed in baskets and yields minimum drag-out.

Polymer Quenchants

Water-soluble polymer systems offering adjustable cooling response and reduced fire hazard.

Select Products

  • NuQuench A is a water-based solution of an organic polymer, non-nitrite corrosion inhibitor, antifoam agent, and biocide. The polymer is inversely soluble in water. Above 165oF the polymer falls out as an insoluble precipitate. Below 165oF the polymer dissolves back into solution. During quenching, the polymer deposits on the surface of the hot metal and becomes one of the controlling factors in the heat transfer process from the part into the quenchant. The actual quenching results are determined by the combined action of concentration, temperature and degree of agitation. It is non-flammable, non-toxic and provides desirable cooling characteristics with minimal environmental impact. NuQuench A can be used for solution heat treating of a wide range of aluminum alloys including forged, wrought and cast aluminum parts. It complies with Aerospace Material Specification 3025 and reduces residual stresses and dimensional distortion compared to water quenching. NuQuench A also works well as a quenchant for plain carbon or alloy steels.

  • PEG Polymer Quenchant

  • NuQuench B is used for carbon steel through 1095 grade alloy steels of most grades, including 400 series stainless steels. NuQuench B is adapted to induction hardening, both spray quench and immersion, for such items as gears, crankshafts, camshafts, and other pieces of intricate geometry and different metallurgy. NuQuench B may follow either oxidizing or protective atmosphere furnaces of shaker. rotary or continuous design. It may be used for direct quenching from the forge, for continuous cast quenching, and for general hardening of forged and cast steels and cast irons.
  • NuQuench C is formulated with a proprietary non-nitrite corrosion inhibitor which is completely compatible with NuQuench C without nitrosamine formation. Analogous quenching performance is obtained with either NuQuench Quenchant C or C-NN. When hot metal is quenched in a diluted solution of NuQuench C Quenchant C or C-NN, a film of the liquid organic polymer is deposited on the surface of the hot metal. The rate at which the metal is cooled is governed, in part, by the thickness of the polymer-rich film. The thickness of this film is controlled by the concentration of NuQuench C Quenchant C or C-NN in the quench bath. The cooling rate is controlled also by adjusting the quench bath temperature and/or the rate of agitation. The main difference between NuQuench C and C-NN and other NuQuench products is the choice of the polymer composition, which provides uniform heat transfer in typical oil applications.

Stop-Off Paints

Solvent-free, easy-clean protective coatings for carburizing, nitriding, annealing, brazing, and induction hardening.

Select Products

  • Nutech W36 is a copper-free and solvent-free stop off paint for gas carburizing. It provides good protection properties against carbon depths up to max. 6 mm. The stop off paint is delivered ready for painting. Before using, Nutech W36 should be stirred up shortly and then applied with a paint brush. The work pieces to be treated must be free of grease and dirt! One layer is sufficiant. To avoid evaporation the cans should be sealed hermetically after use. To restore normal viscositiy the stop off paint can be diluted by adding up to 2 % water. No special thinners are necessary. The dry off time for Nutech W36 is 30 minutes. Unwanted paste residues may be removed easily with water. The heat treatment with Nutech W36 should not exceed temperatures above 970 °C. After heat treatment Nutech W36 residues may be removed only by sandblasting, because of the excellent adhesion quality on the parts.

  • Nutech W34 is a copper-free and solvent-free stop off paint for gas carburizing. It provides good protection properties against carbon depths up to max. 3,5 mm. The stop off paint is delivered ready for painting. Before using, Nutech W34 should be stirred up shortly and then applied with a paint brush. The work pieces to be treated must be free of grease and dirt! One layer is sufficient. To avoid evaporation the cans should be sealed hermetically after use.
